Processing my image of Heart Nebula to remove background gradient using Roger Samworth’s technique in GIMP (background gradient removal in GIMP)

Hi Andy,

Re: Process for removing background gradient using GIMP

Try this, or some variant thereof;
In GIMP,
Duplicate layer
Turn down red and blue to nothing in “curves”
Despeckle what is left  (green) – uncheck “adaptive” and “recursive”. set “radius” to 30
Set mode to “subtract”
Merge down
You then get this (attached). (Its only a 2-minute job. I’m sure you can do better!)
Rgds,
Roger
