Experiments in processing

I spent the last couple of weeks in South Wales and had a run of clear nights. I got a lot of data by staying up far too late…

Here are four images, processed in a combination of Pixinsight, Photoshop, Astra Image and Deep Sky Stacker trying to make use of the best bits/bits I understand in each!

  1. Nice captures Neil.
I can just make out the soap bubble near the crescent. Follow the cloud below the crescent down (running at 7.30 position) till you arrive at a semicircle of stars. Jump across the black hole to the left to the single star (about 9.30). Right next to it on the left is the bubble……very faint.

    1. Extraordinary! I would never have found that, even now I had to check some pictures.

I can barely see it, but it’s there, like an astronomical coffee ring. It seems to be more of an absence of Ha in a faint ring than a surplus of Oiii!

Perhaps it’s partially blocking the nebulosity behind.
