Dark field “filters” purchased from ebay 17/5/2017

Dark field microscopy involves cutting off central light so that the image is dark unless light is refracted into the objective’s path so that the object on the slide appears light against dark background. The simplest way of achieving this is to insert a filter into the condenser filter holder which cuts off this central light. This picture shows a set of such filters I bought off ebay – the central obstructions are in different sizes and the set includes other filters which give side illumination as well. I added the two coins – placing these on one of the filters increases the central obstruction and extends the range of objectives they will work with.
